Linking the MDB-1 and the PHA-1

Music Journalist Steve Lawson has this suggestion for linking the MDB-1 and the PHA-1...

"If you're using the MDB-1 in it's 'normal' capacity - plugging two or three basses directly into it, before the amp - and are using the DI output, you have no tone control between your pickups and the desk, other than the electronics in your bass. This is fine in the studio, but live it's often nice to have a greater level of tonal control, especially if the sound-man is unfamiliar to you, or the PA isn't great. In these circumstances, I connect my PHA-1 into the aux loop on the MDB-1, allowing me to use the three band EQ on all three basses, and also blend the re-EQed signal with the direct sound of my basses, giving me a huge range of tonal control. Simply connect the 'aux send' on the MDB-1 to the 'hi input' on the PHA-1 and the 'line out' on the PHA-1 to the 'aux in' on the MDB-1, and turn the aux blend fully clockwise, to give you only the signal that is passing through the PHA-1. EQ your sound then set the volume level to match the signal when the blend control is full counter-clockwise, so that tonal changes can be made without affecting the volume. Now mix the direct signal and the EQed signal as required!"
